The Hermitage in Kanatal
The Hermitage, picturesquely located on the Chamba - Mussorie road at an enthralling height of 8500 feet amongst pine, deodhar and rausli forests. For any emergency, Chamba is just 15 kms away and Mussorie 40 kms. Otherwise, The Hermitage, is an isolated, beautiful 16 room property with only a few other cottages dotting the hillsides Kanatal is a hamlet relatively unknown to the outside world. Untouched, untamed and totally undefined where crisp invigorating winds mingle with sunny blue skies. Where nature is in view in its myriad compositions, glorious sun sets and.screens deep forest. The silence that the place generates is impregnable as the bustling shopping mal-I or the noisy humdrum of daily life is nowhere near. Its just simple natural pleasure, reflective thoughts and secluded walks.
Rooms with wooden ceilings and panelling and huge glass windows for lovely valley and forest views. Courteous staff, prompt room service, tiled floors and bathrooms with running hot and cold water and a basic cleanliness and class instill a feeling of comfort and warmth as soon as I settle down in my room. The small Café where Indian, Chinese and Continental food is available, though mostly buffets, is a nice, romantic six table affair with glass walls and stupendous views. Maybe, also of the elusive snow capped Himalayan peaks, on a clear day, if you are lucky. I was. The best time to spot the peaks is in the mornings. Take a before breakfast walk, before the sun rises high, in Rauslikhal either further down from Bhatia's cottage or up to the clearing opposite the Mehra property. Tap Mahaveer, at the motel, for these and other interesting pathways
